Mary “Marcella” (Holt) Norton, age 94, of Lamar, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at Truman Healthcare.
Marcella was born on October 8, 1922 in rural Lamar, one of seven children, to Dennis and Flora (Faurot) Holt. She graduated from Lamar High School with the Class of 1940. After graduation, she worked in Kansas City at the Ammunition Plant for a short time. While in Kansas City, she wed her husband of more than 69 years, Wallace Norton, on November 7, 1942. They made their home and farmed in Barton County, where they would have one son, Wally. She would later attend Joplin College where she would obtain a degree in Accounting. She worked at MFA Lamar as an office manager before moving on to work at Novak, CPA for several years until she retired. She was always an active member of the community and of the Lamar United Methodist Church, until her health declined. Her greatest joy in life was time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Wally and Judy Norton, Lamar; three granddaughters, Michelle Roehrs, Lamar; Stephanie Roehrs and husband Ron, Lamar; and Lelia “Tumble” Forst, Lamar; four great-grandchildren, Karlee (Anthony) Garrett, Kyle Roehrs, Ronnah (Travis ) Reed, and Haddi Roehrs; a sister, Marge Fry; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marcella was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace; her parents; three sisters, Jessie, Anna, and Hazel; and two brothers, Warren and Dale.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 10th at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00pm-8:00pm on Thursday, February 9th. Burial will be in Iantha Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Lamar United Methodist Church, Hospice Compassus-Lamar, or a Charity of the Donor’s Choice in care of the funeral home.
