Gene Ray Davis, age 77, of Lamar, Missouri passed unexpectedly in his sleep, Monday, February 13, 2017.
Gene was born October 9, 1939 in Lamar, Missouri to Clint LeRoy and Thelma Blanche (Trout) Davis. He graduated from Jasper High School in 1957, moving from Mindenmines during his senior year. On October 14, 1961, he married Theresa Marie Cronister in Pittsburg, Kansas and together they raised their only child, Randy J. Davis.
Gene managed the Safeway store in Monett. Missouri for several years. He was an agent for the Prudential Insurance Company for 14 years. He and Theresa owned and operated the Davis Insurance Agency in Lamar for 20 years before retiring in 2002. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church as well as the Metro Club and the Elks Club. He enjoyed collecting and selling vintage toy tractors and trains. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Lamar Tiger football games. His grandsons, Wyatt and Morgan, were the joy of his life.
Gene is survived by his wife, Theresa of Lamar; his grandsons, Wyatt Hunter and Morgan Joseph Davis of Lamar; a sister, Bonnie Braker and the late Leonard Braker
of Lamar; two brothers, Gary Davis and wife Joy of Lamar and Sam Davis and wife Barbara of Alvarado, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his only child, Randy Joseph Davis, his parents, Clint LeRoy Davis, and Thelma (Trout) Davis; a sister, Betty Lauck Landes; three brothers, Gerald Davis, Boy Lee Davis, and Bill Lauck.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 pm Friday, February 17, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Private family burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Prayer service will be 6:00 pm Thursday at Daniel Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the prayer service.
Contributions are suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, M.D. Anderson Hospital in memory of Randy Joseph Davis or the Dan & Linda Willis PSU Scholarship Fund, all care of Daniel Funeral Home.
