Francis B. “Curly” Lance, age 93 of Joplin, Mo. passed away late Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
Curly was born on July 23, 1923 in Elizabeth, Ar., the son of Homer and Bertha (Calloway) Lance. He has been a longtime area resident, Curly was part of the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his service, Curly returned home and worked as an airline mechanic for Boeing and Rocketdyne and later a furniture repairman for Laz-y-Boy before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Leawood Village Church of Christ. Curly was active coaching Little League baseball, playing softball for the Rocketdyne team, pitching horseshoes, squirrel hunting and playing pool at the Joplin Senior Center.
He married Zelda Thompson on October 8, 1948, she survives. Additional survivors a son, Terry Lance and wife Kathy of Noel, Mo.; a daughter, Joan Kearney and husband Tom of Joplin, one sister, Pauline Fast of Branson, Mo.; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Carl Johnson and Murl Helwig, will officiate. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City, Mo. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday evening.
