John Robert "Bob" Hunter, age 80, Joplin, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at his home surrounded by family.
Bob was born October 1, 1936 in Lebanon, Missouri, son of the late John William Hunter and Olive Christabel Lynch Hunter. He grew up in Lebanon and graduated from Lebanon High School. He then attended Baptist Bible College. He worked for General Electric Supply, then Seifert Construction before beginning Hunter Appraisal Company in Joplin where he did government contracts for the Missouri Street Department, and personal appraisals. He was active in Boy Scouts where he was a Cub Master and Scout Leader. He was a member of the Joplin Board of Realtors, past president of Sunny Jim Little League, and a member of Forest Park Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, and spending time following his grandchildren's activities.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Eugene Ragland and Thomas Leroy Hunter.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Shirley Byrd Hunter; children, Lisa Geisler and husband David of Ozark, Missouri, Kevin Hunter and wife Amanda of Joplin, Michelle Massey and husband Rick of Joplin; daughter-in-law, Lori Hunter of Joplin; sister, Bette Snyder of Neodesha, Kansas; grandchildren, Dana Finn and husband Thaddaeus, Victoria Rees and husband Garret, Ryan Hunter and wife Michelle, Drew Hunter and wife Kirsten, Blake Hunter, Dustin Hunter, Nathan Drake, Braden Drake, Katelyn Hunter, Jayla Hunter, Jessica Nothum and husband Joseph, Joshua Massey, Olivia Massey, Joseph Massey, Grace Reed; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Rees, Hank Rees, Riley Hunter, Nora Hunter, Ava Nelson, and Rebecca Nothum; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Park Baptist Church with Dr. John Swadley and Rick Massey officiating. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Forest Park Baptist Church/Next Steps.
