Nancy Johnson

Nancy Lee Retherford Johnson, 64, of Joplin, passed away peacefully at her home on February 4, 2017.

She was born on November 8, 1952 in Joplin, Missouri, to Herbert L. and Doris J. Retherford.

Nancy was caring and loving and was a blessing to all who crossed her path. She was involved with the Joplin Elks where she was president of the Lady Elks for five years and enjoyed coordinating the Elks Christmas Basket Program. Nancy was employed for 26 years by Dr. Frank W. Shagets, M.D., but her favorite job was being Nana to her grandson, Braden.

Nancy married Robert “Mike” Johnson on February 5, 1972, and he survives. Nancy is also survived by her daughter, Stephanie McGrew, and her husband, Adam, and their son, Braden, who was the light of her life. Also surviving is her sister, Linda, and husband, Ron, and her brother, David, and wife, Kathy; as well as several nieces and nephews who called her “Wonderful Aunt Nancy”.

Funeral services for Nancy are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin with Father Joji Vincent and Ted Easley officiating. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary on Tuesday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Online condolences may be sent through our website www.thornhilldillon.com.
