Fred Hall

Fred Arthur Hall, 94, passed away February 15, 2017 at his home near Goodman, Missouri, surrounded by his loving family following several months of declining health.

Fred was born September 14, 1922 to Willard Joseph and Christine (White) Hall on the family farm in the Splitlog community. He married Mildred Lorraine Wander on November 22, 1942 at Splitlog Baptist Church. He received notice the following week that he was being drafted to serve his country in World War II. Fred proudly served in the European Theatre Campaign in Italy, receiving two Bronze Star medals for his heroic service in combat. He served his country for three years, returning to Splitlog in December, 1945.

Fred lived his entire life in the hills around Splitlog. He was a faithful life-time member of Splitlog Baptist Church. He served his community as Republican Central Committeeman, Election Judge, Banner School Board Member and on the Buffalo Special Road District Board of Directors. Through the years, he enjoyed hunting coyote and coon as well as fishing. He was a cattle and produce farmer; growing strawberries, grapes, apples, tomatoes, squash, peppers and more. For many years, he hauled cans of milk for the local farmers to Carnation Foods and Seven Valley Cheese Company. He was a carpenter and dealt in real estate. He drove a McDonald County school bus for 16 years. Fred loved to have long conversations with his family and friends, vividly sharing war stories and his memories of his life experiences around Splitlog.

Fred was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mildred, as well as his beautiful daughter, Kathy Shaddox, along with brothers Harold Hall, Oliver Hall, Charles Hall and Kenneth Hall.

He is survived by his children Gene Hall and wife Margaret of Anderson, MO, Sharon Huey and husband Bruce of Overland Park, KS, Carole Ann Wardlaw and husband Mark of Stella, MO, and Mark Hall and wife Shelley of Goodman, MO, along with grandchildren Bryan Hall, Angie Vick, Stacey Russell, Lauren Huey, Clay Wardlaw, Katie Verharst, Kariann Abbott, Steven Shaddox, Michael Shaddox, Sarah Verharst, Travis Hall, Lindsay Hall, Molly Sversvold, twenty-five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters Nyla Grissom, Ernestine Anderson and Mildred Cook along with a host of family and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Hall are 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2017, at Splitlog Baptist Church with Mark Hall and Jon Haley officiating. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Bryan Hall, Clay Wardlaw, Travis Hall, Steven Shaddox, Michael Shaddox and Ike Wortman. Richard Bergen, Elmo Crosby and Glenn Eads will serve as honorary. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Banner Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the church.
