David L. C. Petersen, 86, Carthage, MO, passed on Thursday morning, February 16, 2017 at his home. David Lee Christen Petersen was born January 14, 1931 in Ferron, UT to the late Wilford C. Petersen and Lillian (Foote) Petersen. He graduated from Mesa High School in Mesa Arizona, Class of 1949. He later attended Brigham Young University. David married Joann M. Moody on December 29, 1952 in the LDS Mesa Temple in AZ; she survives. He worked as an electrical engineer for Motorola in Tempe, Arizona. He later owned Monett Office Machines and Radio Shack in Monett Missouri, and then worked at LaBarge Electronics in Joplin MO. David was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Carthage and was the first Bishop of the Monett Ward.
Survivors include his wife, Joann, one daughter, Sheri Ann Martin (husband Derek), Carthage, MO; five sons, Christen D. Petersen, Alba, MO, Craig W. Petersen (wife Arleen), Chandler, AZ, Kent W. Petersen (wife Marcy), Carthage, MO, Bret J. Petersen (wife Penny), Carthage, MO, and Rex M. Petersen, Nixa, MO; two brothers, Nolan R. Petersen (wife Suzanne), Layton, UT, and Stephen D. Petersen (wife Joyce), Mesa, AZ; 39 grandchildren, and 48 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and four sisters.
Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m., Friday, February 24, 2017 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Carthage. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Carthage. Bishop Dan Compton will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Park Cemetery, Carthage. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
