Lorene Mae Bettes Cornell, age 82, Joplin, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Joplin Gardens after a long illness.
Lorene was born February 14, 1934 in Joplin, daughter of the late John Jefferson Bettes and Minnie Mae Odor Bettes. Lorene attended Webb City High School, and owned and operated Lorene's Beauty Shop for years. She also helped her husband with his business, Cornell's Butcher Shop. She was a member of Royal Heights United Methodist Church, and was most recently attending Forest Park Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Cornell, Sr. who passed away on May 17, 2013, and four brothers, John Burr, Earl Bettes, Everett Bettes, and Richard Bettes.
Survivors include her children, Joe Cornell, Jr. and wife Nancy of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Sheryle Cornell Prince and husband Donald of Joplin; grandchildren, Christy Cornell of Broken Arrow, Julie Akers and husband Mark of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Jeremy Prince, Joseph Prince and wife Melissa, Lauren Shelton and husband Stephen all of Joplin; great-grandchildren, David Gleason and wife Angela, Allison Gleason, Michael Akers, Alayna Akers, McKenna Akers, Jordan Walker, Angela Anderson, Makayla Walker, McKinzie Blevins, Acacia Prince, Aviana Shelton, Raidyn Shelton; great-great-grandson, Tate; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Monday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
