Gladys Reding

Gladys Mercy Reding, age 99, Joplin passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at her daughter's home after a lengthy illness.

Gladys was born November 12, 1917 in Joplin, daughter of the late Taylor W. Creech and Alice L. Kilby Creech. She graduated from Joplin High School, and was a member of the National Honor Society. She worked for 30 years as secretary for South Joplin Christian Church where she was also an active member. She was a member of the Joplin Christian Women's Fellowship, Joplin Historical Society, and later Gainesville First Christian Church. She was also a volunteer with Crosslines, and Prestige of Mercy.

In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Olen Reding who died one day prior to her death, a brother, Jack Roger Creech, and a sister, Julia Alice Blue.

Survivors include her daughter, Ann E. Shields and husband John of Squires, Missouri; grandchildren, John W. Hampton, II of Webb City, Missouri, Lieutenant Diane M. Hampton and wife Patricia of Fort Worth, Texas, Karen Lee Smith and husband Robert of Pawnee, Oklahoma; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. three nieces, three nephews, and several great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Robert Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Friday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Crosslines of Joplin.
