Larry L. Long, age 78, of Joplin, Mo. passed away at 10:14 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin. Larry was born December 28, 1938 in Deep River, Iowa and had lived in Joplin most of his life. After graduation from Duenweg High School in 1956, Larry served his country in the U. S. Navy. Larry was employed with ICI Explosives, formerly Atlas Powder Co. for over 20 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Duenweg Christian Church, and the NRA. Larry loved vintage cars, and was a NASCAR fan.
Larry married Evelyn Roughton April 6, 1961 in Southgate, CA and she survives. Additional survivors include one son, Jeff Long, of the home, one sister, Ona Pittser, Kansas City, MO, one sister in law, Shirley Meyer and husband Russ, Pierce City, MO, and several nieces and nephews, plus his faithful pet dog companion Muffin.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel with Len Clevenger, Minister, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Stone Cemetery, near Diamond, MO. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. Thursday until the Service at the Chapel. Memorial contributions are requested to Haitian Christian Mission in care of the Mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, MO
