Roberta Irene “Simmons” Gilbreath, 86, passed away Friday, February 3, 2017 in Carthage. She was born May 21, 1930 in Hardburly, Kentucky to Hugh D. and Elva “Wilson” Simmons and was a long-time resident of Carthage.
In 1948, Roberta graduated from Oneida Baptist Institute in Oneida, Kentucky and completed her RN program at Sisters of Charity of Nazareth Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. She worked at and retired from McCune-Brooks Hospital in Carthage.
Roberta was united in marriage to John C. Gilbreath February 8, 1951, who preceded her in death June 6, 1997. They were married for 46 years.
Roberta is survived by her children: David Gilbreath and wife Vanessa of Marietta, Georgia; Denise Anderson and her husband Steve of Carthage; Lisa Gilbreath and husband Philip Saucier of Santa Fe, Texas. She is also survived by three granddaughters: Hollie Anderson, Emily Gilbreath and Katherine Gilbreath. Additional survivors include her brother Hugh David Simmons of Seabrook, New Hampshire, her sister Marjorie Blanton and husband Foxie and her sister Grace Karam and husband Edmond, both sisters of Lexington, Kentucky.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Golden City, Missouri.
Contributions may be made to the Oneida Baptist Institute or the Alzheimer’s Association care of Ulmer Funeral Home.
