Jim spent a vast majority of his work career as a salesman for McGraw-Hill Publishing Co., retiring in 2003. Upon moving to Columbia in 2004, Jim and his daughter Sheila opened The Little Gym. They successfully owned and operated this business together for ten years. During these ten years, The Little Gym impacted the lives of many young people around Columbia in a very positive way, and this was something that made Jim tremendously proud. It was also during his time spent at The Little Gym that "Papa" Jim spent countless hours, playing baseball and basketball with his grandson Austin, teaching him how to play both of these sports that they shared such a love for. The importance Jim's grandchildren played in his life was obvious to anyone he spent time with, as he could constantly be found talking in very proud terms of Parker, Emma, Austin, and Jordyns' latest accomplishments. Jim's love of his grandchildren and daughter Sheila, was only rivaled by his deep love for his wife Pam, whom he shared so many wonderful moments with during their time together. Jim will be missed greatly, and remembered fondly by all of those whose lives he touched.

Memorial graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 15 at Park Cemetery, Carthage. Rev. Greg Esselman, First Presbyterian Church, Carthage, will officiate.
