(From Parker Mortuary)Edward Leroy Johnson, age 87, Neosho, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 in Joplin.
Eddie was born November 11, 1933 in Joplin, son of the late Elwood “Pete” Johnson and Ruth Roper Johnson. He grew up in Joplin, attended Joplin Schools before joining the United States Navy. He served for over 15 years, and then lived in Maryland for several years.
He married Bessie Cully on September 22, 1967 in Perryville, Maryland, and the couple moved to Neosho in 1990. He worked as a farmer after his time in the service. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War, #1525540 in Port Deposit, Maryland, and the American Legion Post #8185 also in Port Deposit.
In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by grandson, Tyler Gage; a brother, Harold Johnson, a sister, Joyce Buchanan; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Bessie Johnson of Neosho; his children, Paul Edward Johnson and wife Melissa of Goodman, Missouri, Paula E. Brown and husband Danny of Neosho, and Edward L. Johnson, Jr. of Leesville, Louisiana; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Johnson, Jacob Johnson, Bessie Fountain, Rebecca Paylor, Katherine Johnson, and Juliet Johnson ; great-grandchildren, Bailey Fountain, Jace Fountain, Jeremiah Johnson, Willow Lee Johnson, Tanner Paylor, Brylee Gage, Cooper Gage, and Amelia Gage; several nieces and nephews.
As per Eddie’s wishes, no services will be held at this time.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
