Gay Whorlow

Glatha “Gay” Whorlow, age 88 of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Monday November 8, 2021 following a short illness.

She was born November 11, 1932, in Grant City, Missouri to Elvis and Gladys (Adams) Goff.

Gay met her husband Charles when she worked for him in the produce department in a grocery store in Grant City, Missouri. They were married on December 9, 1951 in Maryville, Missouri by the same minister who had performed the ceremony for both her sister and her parents. They were married one month shy of 70 years.








Gay retired from the 3M plant in Ames, Iowa in 1993 where she had worked for 20 years along with her husband Charles. After they both retired from 3M, they moved to Joplin. Prior to going to work for 3M, she and her husband Charles, along with her three children, had operated Whorlow Grocery in Boxholm, Iowa. She was an active member of the Villa Heights Christian Church and had volunteered at ARM (American Rehabilitation Ministry), Meals on Wheels and Spring River Christian Village for many years.

Gay is survived by her husband, Charles; a daughter, Dianne Vaught and husband Rick of Great Falls, Montana; a son, Gary Whorlow and wife Lisa of New Palestine, Indiana; a daughter-in-law, Paula Whorlow, of Ames, Iowa, a sister, Phyllis Tuggle of Trenton, Missoui; a brother, Bob Goff of Lake Tahoe, California; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Mike Whorlow.

The gentlemen honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Jason Whorlow, Bryan Vaught, Brandon Whorlow, Alan Lanteigne, Jonathan Trupp, Matthew Corson and Darin Hays.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday November 13, 2021 at Villa Heights Christian Church with Ministers Steve Bycroft and Gene Hutchcraft officiating. Burial will follow at Osborn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 pm Friday November 12, 2021 at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to ARM (American Rehabilitation Ministry) and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

  1. We certainly extend our sympathy to Chuck and all of the Whorlow family. We have only good memories of what a wonderful Christian woman Gay was. Our prayers are with you.
