(From Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home)Harold Eugene (Smitty) Smith, 80, died on Tuesday November 9, 2021 in Joplin Missouri. The son of Harold and Betty Whited Smith, he was born on December 2, 1940, in Joplin Missouri.
Smitty joined the US Navy in 1958, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1979. He was the commander of the D. A. V. Chapter 19 in Grove for 3 years, during which he helped raise money for a van through golf tournaments.
Smitty was an avid fisherman and had an article written about him in the Oklahoma Sports Magazine for crappie fishing. He also enjoyed going to the casino.
Surviving is his wife Virginia Smith in Grove, a son Ronnie Smith in North Carolina, 3 daughters: Susan Donahue in Kansas, Linda Gardner and Kevin Biggs in Missouri, and Laurie Heritage and Don in Missouri. A half-brother John Smith, 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
There will be a service at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home on Monday November 15, 2021, at 1 PM. The burial will be in the N. E. O. Veterans Cemetery North in Miami, OK With Veterans Rites given be the Grove Veterans Ritual Team. Memorial to: DAV Chapter 19, P.O. Box 450675, Grove OK 74344
