Roger Johnson

(From Clark Funeral Home)

Roger Doyle Johnson was born October 16, 1948, in Neosho, one of three sons to Rudolph and Nadine E. (Atkins) Johnson. On November 9, 2021, he entered into rest in Joplin, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 73.

Roger graduated from Neosho High School in 1966 and worked at Don's Shop and later graduated from the Water and Wastewater Technical School with honors. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was cleared for a top-secret rating with crypto access.

Following his honorable discharge from the military, he worked as a computer technician for Iowa Beef in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He continued working there when the business transferred to Tyson until he retired.

It was always his intention to return to his home community and, in 2012, moved to Joplin. Roger's passion was being a radio control airplane pilot, and at the age of 50, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of being a licensed pilot and owning his own aircraft. He was an avid Roger Miller fan, a history buff, a brilliant man, and his work was perfection.

He was a kind and gentle man and a Christian. Roger and Joye Carr were married in 1962 in Neosho, and she survives. In addition to his wife of 49 years, he is survived by two sons, Andrew J. Johnson and wife, Cassandra of Aurora, Nebraska and Benjamin Johnson and wife, Anna of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Mya, Araya, Dalton , Hudson, Rudy and Nixon, two brothers, Gary Johnson, and wife, Cathy of Columbia, Missouri and Allen Johnson of Neosho.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks for the compassionate and tender care given to Roger, Linda Weller, Angie Bash, Lorrie Hensley, Susan Abram, sister-in-law Joyce Noble, and Mike DeWitt, a true friend.
