Jackie Burda

(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

Our precious mother, Mary Jacqueline “Jackie” Burda, age 76, passed away after a brief illness on Monday, November 8, 2021. She was born on April 14, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois to her parents William E. Meehan and Helen L. (Linn) Meehan who preceded her in death along with her elder sister, Lorraine Andersen Lange of Chandler, Arizona.

Jackie married Daniel A. Burda on November 28, 1964 at the Church of St. Angela in Chicago. He preceded her in death by just thirteen days. They were a devoted and loving couple married nearly 57 years. She was an exceptional wife to her beloved husband. They will be forever loved and dearly missed.

A young Jackie worked as a model and secretary at Sears Tower in downtown Chicago. Later, after relocating to Woodstock, Illinois with her young family and after enjoying life as a stay at home mom, she was employed as an executive secretary for Plaspros, Inc. for fourteen years. She then enjoyed an early retirement with her husband and in 2006 they moved to Joplin to be closer to their grandchildren. She was a proud mother of three children and two grandchildren. Jackie’s greatest love was her family.

She was a talented cook and baker who prepared the best Thanksgiving dinners imaginable. She loved to set a beautiful dining table, enjoyed decorating, gardening, old houses and antiquing with her husband. Her favorite book was “ An Affair With A House” and she adored the music of Barbara Streisand and Neil Diamond.

She is survived by her family; Amie M. Burda of Joplin, Missouri, John P. Burda and his wife, Maddy, of Honolulu, Hawaii, Elizabeth K. Huthsing and her husband, Jon, and their two children J. Hunter Huthsing and Kate E. Huthsing of Joplin.

Her family grieves her loss tremendously, but they take comfort knowing that Jackie and Dan are together, again. She did her best for her loved ones and devoted her life to her cherished husband and children. She was a lady and an old-fashioned mom. She always sacrificed her needs for the good of her family.

A private service and reception to honor and celebrate her life and memory will be held at a future date, to be determined.
