(From Fohn Funeral Home)Steven G. Smith, Sr., age 74, of Cassville, Missouri passed away in his sleep Thursday, November 4, 2021 at his home.
He was born May 28, 1947 in Joplin, Missouri, the son of Charles and Virginia (Bennett) Smith.
On July 1, 1966 in Joplin, Missouri he was united in marriage to Sharon Smith, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Steven Smith II and his wife Robin of Bentonville, Arkansas; one daughter, Mischelle Moore and her husband John of Rocky Comfort, Missouri; one brother, Chris Smith and his wife Nancy of Weir, Kansas; two sisters, Marcia Smith of Ponce de Leon, Missouri and Jamia Wofford of Ponce de Leon, Missouri; four grandchildren, Samantha Wolverton and her husband Cole, Trevor Smith and his wife Elaine, Steven Smith III and Crystal Moore; two great grandchildren, Stephanie and Joy and one great great grandchild, Ares.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two grandchildren, Pat Moore and Timothy Moore.
Steve graduated from Carl Junction High School in 1965 and later attended Crowder College where he attained an Associate Degree, then taught Statistics and Quality Circle training for Crowder. He was drafted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam from August 1, 1966 until August 30, 1968. He then went to work at One Hour Dry Cleaners in Joplin working there for one year. From 1969 until 1975 he was employed by American Fixtures. In September of 1975 he began working at FASCO Industries in Cassville as General Foreman, and after 37 years, he retired in 2012 as IT Director over five American plants and one Canadian division. Some of his favorite pastimes were bass and trout fishing, he enjoyed tying his own flies and especially liked taking his grandkids fishing. For thirty years in a row, he didn’t miss the May fishing trip to Lake of the Woods, Canada. For the last four years he helped serve veterans breakfasts and worked bingo at the Shell Knob VFW.
As per his request, no services or memorials are scheduled. Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.
