Harold Altman

Harold Burton Altman, age 91, Joplin, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Freeman Hospital.

Harold was born June 17, 1925 in Fayetteville, Arkansas to the late Walter B. Altman and Myrtle Gile Altman and had been a resident of Joplin since the 1940’s.

Harold was a veteran of the United States Army and had served his country during the Korean War. He was self-employed and was also a life member of the Masonic Lodge #345, Scottish Rite Valley of Kansas City, MO, Scottish Rite Valley of Joplin, MO, Midian Shrine of Wichita, KS, Abou Ben Adhem Shrine of Springfield, MO, Joplin Shrine Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #534, American Legion Post #13, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2410, and the Disabled American Veterans Post #52.

He married Gladys Marie Arnold on April 12, 1953 in Kansas City, Missouri. She preceded him in death on July 5, 2009.

Harold is survived by his daughter, Judith Diane (Altman) Lankford and her husband, Jerry, of Joplin and his son, Harold Lee Altman and his wife, Silvia, of Webb City. Additional survivors include his brother, Curtis Altman and his wife, Dianne, of Joplin; his grandchildren Aubrey Lankford and his wife, Callie, of Joplin, Nathan Lankford of Joplin, Brittany, Michael and Dan Altman, all of Joplin; his great grandchildren Aspyn Lankford, Hunter Verdier, Grace Lankford, Gage Lankford, Isabella Lankford, Case Lankford, and a long-time companion, Gaynell Jones, of Joplin.

In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his son, Richard Aubrey Altman, four brothers, Jack, Monte, Kenneth and Ralph Altman.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Parker Mortuary. Rev. Bob Simon will officiate. Interment will follow at Jackson Cemetery south of Joplin on NN Highway with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m. Monday at Parker Mortuary.

Pallbearers: David Altman, Jeff Altman, Steve Altman, Aubrey Lankford, Nathan Lankford, Gage Lankford, Chuck Altman and Monte Altman, Jr.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
