Boon Burress

Bill Jr. ‘Boon’ Burress was born February 23, 1951, in Neosho, Missouri, one of four children to Bill L. and Lois (Hatcher) Burress. He entered into rest on November 15, 2021, at a Carthage Nursing Home, following an extended illness at the age of 70. 


Boon was a lifelong area resident and graduate of East Newton High School, class of 1969, where he was an active FFA member.








He worked most of his life in food service, beginning his career at the Brown Derby, operated by Gertie Brown, who he loved dearly. He later co-owned and operated Su Boons CafĂ© and the Old Mining Town Cafe. He also worked at Kraft Foods for many years and as a bailiff for the Newton County Sheriff’s Department. Boon loved country music, attending concerts, and had an extensive album collection. He was a member of the Company Junction Church.

Boon is survived by his beloved puppy, Bailey; foster son, Phillip Anderson, two sisters, Sandy (Tim) Blanchard of Granby and Kara Burress of Ritchey; one brother, Rob Burress of Joplin; aunt, Barbara ‘Sug’ McCullah; four nephews, one niece, one great-nephew, and four great-nieces. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, De Anna Tubbs.
