Calvin was born October 28, 1932 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma to the late Calvin Cassady, Sr. and Ann Williams Cassady and had lived in the Joplin area since 1966.
He graduated from Sallisaw High School in 1949 and received a B.S. in Education from what is now known as Northeastern Oklahoma State University, Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He then earned a Masters Degree in School Administration in 1957 from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. His education continued with an Ed.S in School Administration and Curriculum from the former Kansas State Teachers College, Pittsburg; and a MA in Social Work in 1966 from the University of Arkansas.
His teaching career spanned three decades and several school districts. Kincaid (KS); Chanute (KS); Douglas County (KS) and finally at Joplin R-VIII at South Junior High School, where he finished his career after 17 years.
Calvin was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Joplin and the Missouri State Teachers Association. Following his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and visiting libraries. He enjoyed reading and focused on military history and the Civil War. Calvin also liked old classic cars and airplanes. He was even known to fish and hunt on occasion.
Calvin married Betty Zane Winnie on October 28, 1950. She preceded him in death on February 17, 1990.
Survivors include two sons, Calvin Cassady IV and his wife, Vicki, Carl Junction, Thomas Cassady and his wife, Kathi, Joplin; six grandchildren, Rebecca DePriest and her husband, Brett, Sarah Cassady, Nathan Cassady and his wife, Rachel, Gabriel Cassady and his wife, Emily, Zane Cassady; two great grandchildren, Calvin DePriest and Wilson DePriest; and his loving companion, Sue Call, Carthage.
Services are planned for Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Max Rainey will officiate. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the mortuary.
