In Christ, we have victory for every challenge we face. Irene fought hard with her Parkinson’s disease and she has now won her victory. She passed away March 8, 2014 at Medicalodge of Neosho.
Irene was born to Thomas Charles and Alice Elizabeth May on May 28, 1924 in London, England. She was a member of the Church of England. Her early studies were at an all girls school where Bible and Scriptures were a requirement. Her favorite scripture was Psalms 91. She joined the Royal Air Force during World War II, where she met the love of her life, Grady E. Price, who was stationed with the Army in England. They married in 1944. Their son was born in England. After the war, they returned to America. Irene loved America, but never gave up her English citizenship. She said she was proud to be a ‘Jolly Little English Lady’. They settled in Coffeyville, Kansas where their daughter was born. Later, to Joplin, Missouri, where their youngest daughter was born. They lived in Neodesha, Kansas until 1961, when they moved to Neosho, Missouri, where Grady began work at Rocketdyne. Grady passed away in 1962 with a heart attack.
Being the strong and independent woman that we all know, she raised her children by herself. When they were grown, she met and married Ken Barnes. They were only married a year when he passed away. So, she walked on in life as a widow and stayed that way until this day. She loved walking and never got her driver’s license. She loved tending her roses, cross word puzzles, flea markets and garage sales. She had such a love for animals. She loved making goody baskets for her family at Christmas time; her greatest joy was her family. She worked at La Z Boy and retired in 1989.
She is preceded in death by her son, Grady E. Price, a grandson, David Widener and sister, Edna Atkins. She is survived by her daughters, Liana (Lon) Reed and Barb (Bob) Widener; five grandchildren, Amy, Sarah, Jason, Doug and Darin; 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, due in May; a brother, Tony (Wendy) Brooks and a sister in law, Joan (Jim) Rauch. At Irene’s request, no services are planned.
Following cremation, she will be buried at Neosho IOOF Cemetery with Grady. Any love offerings can be sent to the Christopher Foundation, c/o Clark Funeral Home. The family wishes to Thank Medicalodge of Neosho for all of the wonderful and loving care they gave to Irene and Thank You to Hospice and Dr. McFarland. This is Irene’s Irish Prayer to Everyone….May God Grant You Always…A sunbeam to warm you, A moonbeam to charm you, A sheltering angel so nothing can harm you, Laughter to cheer you, Faithful friends near you…And whenever you pray, Heaven to hear you.
