James Franklin ‘Frank’ Herron, Jr. age 83, Joplin, passed away at 11:09 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2014 at his residence after an illness.
Frank was born July 18, 1930 in Picher, Oklahoma to the late James ‘Frank’ Herron and Hazel Messer Compton and had lived in the Duquesne area all of his life.
Frank loved living on his farm until the May 2011 tornado destroyed it. He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge #335, AF & AM; Joplin Shrine Club; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Joplin and the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple, Springfield. Frank was a veteran of the United States Army and the United States Air Force. He was employed by Vickers; Rocketdyne-Neosho; and was self employed many years with Herron Farm Implements.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Rae Shaw Herron and daughter-in-law, LouAnne Hughes Herron.
Survivors include a brother, Gerald Herron, Tulsa; a son, Frank Herron, Joplin; a daughter, Diana Steele and her husband, David, Joplin; grandchildren, Jud Dunaway, Jessica and Matt Persinger, Pete and Heather Herron, David and Lindsay Steele; and 12 great grandchildren.
Services are planned for Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Joe Morris will officiate. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Steele, Matt Persinger, Pete Herron, Jud Dunaway, Connie Kinnear and Gerald Herron. Masonic rites will be recited Monday at 6:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary with a visitation to follow at the chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Shrine Club Travel Fund, in care of Parker Mortuary.
