James P. ‘Jim’ Nolan, age 80, Joplin, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014.
Jim was born May 29, 1933 in Limerick, Ireland to the late Stephen Nolan and Ellen Barry Nolan and had lived in Joplin since 1993, moving from Plano, Texas.
Jim worked for General Motors for over 35 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church and was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Jim was a man with a quiet nature that chose to lead by example. He was a man of Integrity and a faithful man of God. His family meant the world to him. Jim was a true Irish gentleman.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Carene; three daughters, Debbie Irwin and her husband, Pat, Joplin, Sandy Hawkins and her husband, Brian, Georgetown, Texas, Kathy Hill and her husband, Andy, Allen, Texas; siblings, Stephen, Anne, Mai, Bridie, all of Ireland; and his grandchildren, MacKenzie, Drew, Brandon, Carley, Tyler, Brooke, Cade and Brett.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a sister, Christine.
A funeral mass is scheduled for Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church. Rev. J. Friedel will officiate. Pallbearers will be Brian Hawkins, Andy Hill, Pat Irwin, Drew Irwin, Brandon Hawkins, Tyler Hawkins, Cade Hill and Brett Hill. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation or to the Outreach House at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, both in care of Parker Mortuary.
