Cecil Bliss Betterton, age 84, of Webb City, Mo., passed away on Monday, March 10, 2014, following an illness.
Cecil was born on July 17, 1929, in Pueblo, Colo., to Ernest and Carrie (Vaught) Betterton. He lived most of his life in Webb City, and worked in transportation and construction as owner-operator of CB&W Trucking and foreman at Better Homes. He was one of eight kids, survived by his brother, Ernest Betterton Jr. and his wife, Sally and preceded in death by sisters, Eva, Juanita, Glenna and Anna; and by brothers, Nolan and Jessie.
He married Claradene (Copeland) Harper on June 9, 1972, in Miami, Okla.
Cecil was an avid sports fan and loved his Webb City Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma City Thunder. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved his dogs.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Claradene, of the home; his three daughters, Brenda Bard, Webb City, Cecilia (Gary) Campbell, Dover, Okla., and Debra Betterton, Bethany, Okla.; his son, Bill (Sheila) Harper, Webb City; 10 grandchildren, Angee (Brandon) Tingle, Bryan (Crystal) Bard, Blake (Natalie) Bard, Brett Harper, Willie Harper, Greg (Rebekah) Whittaker, Jennifer VanDuker, Jared Edgin, Justin Betterton and Pari (Nic) Whitson; 11 great-grandchildren; special nephew, Marty Musteen; and several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by son, David Betterton; and grandson, Josh Betterton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Simpson Funeral Home, Webb City. Funeral services will be held at Christ Church of Oronogo, Oronogo, Mo., at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14.
