Nancy J. Spencer, age 64, of Wyandotte, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
Nancy was born May 31, 1949 in Joplin, daughter of the late George W. Carpenter and Colleen Joyce DuShane Carpenter of Alba, Missouri. She was a proud member of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe, and has lived in this area most of her life. She was a hard worker, working mainly as a chef for local hotels and restaurants. She retired in 2012 after several years working as a chef at the Holiday Inn of Joplin. She was also a member of the Alba Friends Church.
In addition to her father, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Don Spencer, who died in 2004, and a brother, David Carpenter.
Survivors include her mother, Colleen Carpenter of Alba; brother, Clifford Carpenter and wife Connie of Joplin; sister, Melinda Lorenz of the home; children, Melissa Mitchell of the home, Chris Irwin of Webb City, Rebecca Marney of Joplin, and Bridget Lewis and husband Walter of Webb City; grandchildren, Jed, Shelby, Sarah, Kristopher, Joesph, Tice, Chance, Kade, Christian, ShaDonn, Brandon, Jimmy, Mercedes, and Dakota; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be Monday, March 24, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
