James Christopher “Chris” Burtis, age 64 of Carthage, MO passed away at 7:25 Friday morning March 14, 2014 at his home. He was born on November 30, 1949 in Burbank, CA the son of Warren and Emma Lou Burtis. Chris married Joyce Prudhomme Sodek on April 7, 2000 in Las Vegas, NV. He worked as a service technition for Carthage Ford, was an avid NHRA drag racing fan but most of all he enjoyed being Gopa to his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Joyce of the home; a son Wayne Burtis and wife, Heather of Pooler, GA, a daughter Lynniece Wilson of Ft. Dodge, IA; a step son Dean Sodek and Kara of Simi Valley, CA; two step daughters: April Nickerson of Simi Valley, CA and Amy Gazzaniga and husband Steve of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; eight grandchildren and a sister Nancy Burtis and his mother, Emma Lou Burtis of Simi Valley, CA.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday March 29, 2014 at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Contributions can be made to the Freeman Cancer Institute in care of the mortuary. Arrangements entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
