Sarah Martha Day Smith, 98, formerly of Granby, MO, died March 18, 2014.
Sadie was born Sept. 6, 1915 in Mountain View, Howell County, Missouri, the daughter of Leslie Hale and Charlotte Susan (Clift) Day. She last resided in Granby and had lived in her granddaughter’s home the last eight years where she passed away peacefully at home. Sarah was the ‘Queen’ of our family; she ruled us with strength and loving-kindness and prayed for us always. She was an ever–abiding presence in all our lives and we will miss her. She is in the everlasting arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and with her family who has gone before her.
Sadie married Maurice Richard Smith of Granby, the son of William Vile and Lora Ann Stringer Smith on June 20, 1931. Together they had two daughters, June Leslie and Barbara Lora. Sadie is preceded in death by her husband and daughters. She is survived on this earth by her brother, Major Claude S. Day, Ret. of Springfield, VA; grandchildren, Jeannette Lynn, Brenda Lee, Charles John and Lana Jean. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Jamie Louann, Bill Alan, Adam Maurice, Alanna Maureen, Michael Hale, Carolyn Joyce, Jacqueline Lee, Evelyn Michelle, Amanda Lillian, Charles John, III and Stephanie Marie; great great grandchildren, Matthew John, Krista Renee, Michael Alan, Skylar John, Alicia Celene, Canaan Alexander, Taylor Reese, Fischer Russell, Waylon Robert, Austin James, Christian Ryan, Cara Grace, Samantha Jean, Tyler Daniel, Randolph Quinn and Sadie Marie. In addition to her husband and daughters, Sarah is preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Gertrude Elnora, Samuel Leslie, Howard Chauncy, Naomi Beatrice, Frederick Clift and Claude S.; sisters and brothers in law, Nellie Frances, Ruth, Hazel Marie, Juanita Mura and Dee Willis.
