Alta Lightner age 91 of Webb City, Missouri passed away Monday September 19, 2016 following an extended illness.
She was born October 7, 1924 in Opolis, Kansas to Frank and Mary Jane (Kennedy) Lightner.
Alta worked as a seamstress at Smith Brothers Shirt Factory for 43 years. She enjoyed keeping up with those that she had worked with. She graduated from Alba, Missouri High School. Alta was the type of person that would go without just to be able to help others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, John and Forest (Pete) Lightner; two sisters, Eunice Harper and Grace Roberts.
Alta is survived by five nephews, Terry Roberts, Joplin, Missouri, Michael Roberts, Webb City, Missouri, John Lightner, Fayetteville, Arkansas, Robert Roberts and wife Gail, Liberty, Missouri, Tom Harper and wife Twyla, Carthage, Missouri; two nieces, Sharon Garrett and husband Robert, Salina, Oklahoma, Janice Rush and husband Galen, Jasper, Missouri, and a great niece Michelle Solorzano, Carthage, Missouri.
Those gentlemen honoring Alta’s life by serving as pallbearers will be, Terry Roberts, Bob Roberts, Barry Roberts, John Lightner, Kevin Lightner, and Tom Harper.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am Friday September 23, 2016 at the Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home, with Keith Brumfield officiating. Burial will follow at the Nashville Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Following the burial friends are invited to 2603 S. Moffett Joplin, Missouri for refreshments and to share memories.
