Anna Elizabeth (Holt) VanGilder was born June 20, 1918 to Dennis & Flora (Faurot) Holt. She passed away peacefully Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Barton County Memorial Hospital.
Anna married Leo Earl VanGilder, February 14, 1938. He preceded her in death in 2008 after nearly 70 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death, a son Carl Lee VanGilder, an older sister, Jesse Lee and brothers Warren and Dale Holt; and two great-grandsons, Scott Allen VanGilder and Ryan VanGilder.
Survivors include three sons; Ray(Faye) VanGilder, Neal (Jan) VanGilder, Steve (Myra) VanGilder; three sisters Marcella Norton, Margie Fry and Hazel Moore; a daughter-in-law Patsy VanGilder; nine grandchildren; 26 great and step grandchildren; 22 great-great and step grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Anna was a housewife working on the farm and in the garden. She was an avid bowler and won many trophies from tournament participation. She was a member of the Milford Christian Church.
Anna was never still – always busy canning, taking care of the pigs, embroidery, and cooking up great meals for her family and the hay crew! She was a volunteer at the Lamar Fair, helping with set up at the Memorial Hall. She brought home many blue ribbons. She volunteered at the Lamar Middle School, teaching students to quilt. Their project was then auctioned as a fundraiser. One student asked her if she would be their Grandma. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend.
Services for Anna will be 10:00 am Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Milford Christian Church with Associate Pastor Darrell Doss. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday at Daniel Funeral Home.
