Herschel A. Butler, age 96, formerly of Joplin, passed away on Monday September 5, 2016 at Frene Valley Health Care, in Herman, Mo., following an illness.
Herschel was born on April 26, 1920 in Buffalo, Mo., the son of the late Jess Butler and Maud (Tucker) Butler. He married Marion Klett and together they raised three sons. He was a member of the Living Church of God in Joplin. He worked as a chiropractor for several years, he was also a machinist for Universal Match and Emerson Electric, and prop to retirement he worked in maintenance at Doane Products. He enjoyed gardening.
He married Thelma Provow in 1978 and she preceded him in death on October 25,2014. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Helen Howser, Claud Butler, Fenton Butler, Wilma Kessinger, and Eliza Maye McClelland.
He is survived by three sons, Herschel Butler and his wife Pam, Herman, Mo., Robert D. Butler and wife Rhonda, Overland, Mo., and David L. Butler, Alpharetta, Ga.; one sister Mary M. Heikkolo, Boise, Id.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
