Mac McCoy

Waldon E “Mac” McCoy, age 95, died at 10:15 pm, Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Quaker Hill Manor, Lowell, KS following an illness.

Mac was born July 5, 1921 in Miami, OK. His parents were Charlie Louis and Anna Augusta (Lycio).

He graduated from Riverton High School with the Class of 1939. He then attended Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburg, KS and excelled in football being named to the All-Conference football team. He earned his Master’s degree in Education at the college in 1959.

He worked in education in Southeast Kansas, serving as Superintendent in Moline and Cherryvale, as high school Principal in Galena, and as grade school Principal at Chetopa, retiring in 1985.

He served in the US Navy during World War II between the years 1942 and 1946. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Galena, KS. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Baxter Springs, KS, the Shrine, Pittsburg, KS, and the Scottish Rites, Ft Scott, KS. He had been an active member of the Baxter Springs Lions club. His interests included hunting, fishing, and gardening.

He was married to Marjorie Louise Breitenbucher in 1946 at Berkley, CA. She died in January, 2006. He later married Clara Ruth (Smith) West on May 8, 2008 ion Miami, OK. She passed away Jan 7, 2016. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Anne Louise Carnes one sister, Goldie Milholland and two brothers, Curtis McCoy, and Carmond McCoy.

Surviving is one son, Chris (wife, Joy) McCoy, Nixa, MO; one step-son, Ted (wife , Carrie) Schmid, Lorraine, KS; four grandchildren, Andrea (husband, Mike) Bailey, Carl Junction, MO, David (wife, Jessica) McCoy, Springfield, MO, Jason (wife, Delisa) Fryar, Pittsburg, KS, and Lisa Hoffman, Springfield, MO; one step-granddaughter, Robyn (husband, Chuck) O’Malley, Scammon, KS; one nephew, Alan (wife, Jolie) McCoy, Rapid City, SD,; one niece, Dixie Miller, Little Rock < CA; and his sister-in-law, Treva Nunn, Baxter Spring, KS.

Mac had been entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS for cremation.

A Memorial service will be held at 3.00 pm, Saturday, September 10, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Galena, KS. Pastor Jeff Swart will officiate. He will be laid to rest by his first wife in Baxter Springs Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
