Prentiss A. Hackett, Sr., age 76, Joplin, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Citizens Memorial Health Center in Bolivar after a sudden illness.
Prentiss was born February 12, 1940 in Jackson, Mississippi to the late Esau Hackett and Helen Hall Hackett and had lived in Joplin most of his life.
He owned and operated Prentiss Backhoe Service, supplying heavy equipment operation to area construction companies for many years. Prentiss was a faithful member of Handy Chapel A.M.E., Myrtle Lodge #149 PHA-F&AM, and Ukhfi Shrine Temple #203. In his spare time, Prentiss enjoyed being around friends and spending time with his family. He will be missed by all that knew him.
In addition to his parents, Prentiss was preceded in death by a son, John, in 2001 and a great grandson.
Survivors include his wife, Rushell; children, Jackie Howery, Joplin, Perntice Hackett, Joplin, Prentess Hackett, Jr., Joplin, Quinterrio Jackson, Joplin, Shana Jackson, Joplin, Prentistine Rogers, South Carolina, Tracy Thomas, Oklahoma City; several siblings, including Ennis Hackett and wife, Ruthie Mae, Esau Hackett, Jimmy Hackett, Tony Hackett, Lavell Hackett; seventeen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and many extended family members.
Services are planned for Friday at 2:00 p.m. at The Church at Brookwood, 600 East 50th Street, Joplin. Rev. Willie E. Rogers, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7-8:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
