Arthur James Gray, age 77, Joplin, passed away at 8:45 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Mercy Hospital after an illness.
Arthur was born February 4, 1939 in Rush Township, Pennsylvania to the late John Spencer and Anna Christine Gray.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, retiring in 1977 after twenty years of service. Arthur then worked as a court clerk for the State of Missouri for fifteen years, retiring in 2003. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
Arthur married Ethel Ellis on June 26, 1965 in Kansas City, Missouri. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include two children, Kevin Gray and his wife, Heather, Joplin, Arteth Birkinshaw and her husband, Peter, Manchester, England; two sisters, Ella Jones, Clearwater, Florida, Idella Burchett, Warren, Michigan; and two grandchildren, Tabitha Gray and Starzia Gray.
In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Ann Gray and siblings, Florence Babcock, John Gray and Edward Gray.
Graveside services are planned for Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Springfield National Cemetery, 1702 E. Seminole St., Springfield, Mo. Rev. Josh Branham will officiate. Full military honors will be provided.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
