Martin R. Welshofer, age 90, left us to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at his home.
Martin was born July 2, 1926 in Jamestown, New York, son of the late Edward Welshofer and Jessie Welch Welshofer. He graduated from High School, and earned a degree in Engineering at Clarkson College. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II, and the Korean Conflict as an Armored Combat Engineer, being discharged with the rank of Lieutenant. He was awarded a bronze star for his service. He worked for Rocketdyne in Los Angeles as an Engineering Supervisor. He helped with designs for NASA during his 11 years there before being transferred to Neosho in 1965. He later worked as a sales associate for Missouri Steel Casting, and then in 1978 he began Mar-Wel Castings in Joplin which he owned and operated until 1997. He was also an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, Martin was preceded in death by his brother, Lewis Welshofer, a son, Tom Welshofer, and a step-son, Joe Wasson.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Billie Smith Welshofer; sons, John Welshofer, Peter Welshofer, Patrick Welshofer; daughters, Judy Welshofer Dennis, Leslie Dyce, Carol Welshofer; sister, Mary Wickett; step-son, Michael Wasson; daughter-in-law, Terry Wasson; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Justin Monaghan officiating. Internment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers.
A prayer service will be held on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary with visitation to follow.
