(From Parker Mortuary)
Janet Naydeen (Foster) Hill, 97, who passed on September 8, 2016, was born December 18, 1918 at Tom’s Station, near Carl Junction, MO, to Thomas and Frances (Foley) Foster. Janet was the youngest of 10 children. Her brother George often lamented that he had to walk to their sister Marie’s house in the snow the day she was born, and he didn’t even get an orange in his Christmas stocking that year! The close-knit family was musically talented, and often sang at church or Enterprise School events.
Janet graduated from Carl Junction High School in 1936, and completed secretarial training at Tulsa Business College. She worked as a bookkeeper at Davis Cadillac until her marriage to Marc G. Hill of Joplin in 1941. He predeceased her in 1985.
From 1972 until her retirement in 1992, Janet was proudly employed by Missouri Southern State University, first in Financial Aid, then in Personnel, where every employee got acquainted with the charismatic redhead who handed them their paychecks.
After retirement, Janet started a new chapter in life, defined by activity, travel and fitness. She, and companion Eldy Crowell, sailed the Danube, visited Russia, and toured the Panama Canal. She traveled to Hawaii with family to learn how to hula. She joined the South Joplin Y, where she walked at least 3 days per week until November of last year. She was a bon vivant with things to do, like hair and nail appointments, massages, weekly meetings at the Joplin Association for the Blind, and Friday evening Happy Hour at College View Manor, to name just a few.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, all nine siblings, husband Marc, companion Eldy, and great grandson Bean.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in law Patti and Larry McGregor of Joplin, and Rita and Bill Fordham of Pasadena, MD; honorary son Stephen Crowell; son-in-law John Humble; grandchildren Lance Page, Stephanie Page Jameson and husband Karl, and Erin Humble Beussink and husband Zac. Additional survivors include 8 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and the many adoring “fans” she left in her wake.
A memorial visitation is planned at Parker Mortuary from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20, immediately followed by graveside services at Ozark Memorial Park.
Though flowers are welcome, contributions to the Joplin Association for the Blind would be a great way to honor her memory.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
