Denise E. Thomas, age 55, of Joplin, passed away on Monday September 26, 2016, at her home, following an illness.
Denise was born on September 30, 1960 in Joplin, the daughter of the late Delbert and Kathryn (McMackin) Maurer. She has been a lifetime area resident. She graduated from Parkwood High School in 1979. She was an accomplished hair dresser, working for “The Hair Emporium” and several other salons in Joplin. She was a member of Villa Heights Christian Church. She loved to hunt for arrowheads and treasures at rummage sales. She loved all ocean life, but mainly whale watching.
Denise is survived by her son, Samuel Thomas, Miami, Ok.; the love of her life, Mike Simmons, Joplin; three sisters, Donna Garrigan and husband Dennis, Joplin, Diana Maurer, Joplin, and Debby Fee and her wife Colleen, Greeley, Co.; one brother, John Maurer, Joplin; two nieces and two nephews, and four great-nieces and four great-nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother Billy Maurer in 1953.
We will all miss her bubbly personality and infectious laugh. She loved her family and friends dearly.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at Villa Heights Christian Church. Truman Brady, Minister, will officiate. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, Ok.
The family will receive friends at a time of visitation 6-7 p.m. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be given to Villa Heights Christian Church.
