Mary L. Etter, age 87, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.
Mary was born November 28, 1928 in Brookline, Missouri, second of three daughters of Lee and Velma Howard.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Mae Brown, all of Republic, Missouri.
Mary assisted Bob as Office Manager for the couple's numerous farm machinery businesses throughout Kansas during the 1970's and early 80's. In 1985, the couple relocated back to the Joplin area where they remained since.
In 1986, the couple introduced Joplin to it's very first off course golf shop, Suburban Golf. Golf was something Mary and Bob thoroughly enjoyed together and many friendships were fostered during the couple's 20 years of residence at both Loma Linda and Briarbrook Country Clubs.
Mary was a devout Christian and attended the First Presbyterian Church of Joplin. She drew great strength from her 20 plus years of volunteer work for Freeman Health Systems, East. In 2006, Mary was named the Freeman Health Systems, Volunteer of the Year.
Survivors include husband, Bob, of 52 years; son, Mark; and grandson, Alex, all of Joplin; sister, Margaret Blades and husband, Kenneth of St. Louis, Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, September 21 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, family request donations be made to any charity of your choice in Mary's honor.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
