Dee Wampler attended Rountree, Jarrett, Central and Parkview. He attended Drury University, Northwestern University and graduated from the University of Missouri – Columbia (BS 1963) (Juris Doctor 1965) and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve (1958-1965) and forsaking a career in the FBI worked as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney and was Greene County’s youngest elected Prosecuting Attorney (1970-1972) at the age of 29. In his 55 year career, Dee Wampler has received many awards and honors.
Wampler received many important awards and honors and his reputation was quickly established as a lead trial attorney. He received the Award of Springfield’s Outstanding Young Man (1971), and Missouri Top Five Outstanding Young Men (1972). He was invited to a private audience with legendary FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover.
He was involved in politics, charities, and served on the board of directors of many organizations including the Chamber of Commerce, Safety Council of the Ozarks, President of the Greater Springfield Area Bar Association, the Missouri Board of Bar Governors, and was the organizer and first President of CrimeStoppers.
Wampler was an organizer and lifetime Board Member of the Messiah Project, President of the Civil War Roundtable of the Ozarks; and was on the Board of Directors of the Boy Scouts; Hammons Center for the Performing Arts; Ozarks Crime Prevention Council, and the Springfield Symphony.
He was the lay leader of King’s Way United Methodist Church and has spoken at over two hundred area churches in the Midwest. He was featured in Who’s Who in American Politics, Best Lawyers in America. He received numerous attorney awards including from the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Was winner or runner-up for Best Lawyer in Springfield by Springfield!, 417 Magazine, and the Springfield News-Leader. He was selected as the Top Ten Lawyer in the State of Missouri. He published 200 articles for law enforcement journals and authored six books including, “The Trial of Christ-A Criminal Attorney Defends Jesus, “ “The Myth of Separation of Church and State,” “One Nation Under God,” and “Standing on the Front Line”, and five books on Missouri Criminal Law. He received numerous attorney awards from the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
He hosted a daily radio program “Standing on the Front Line” on Bott Radio Network, and appeared on KSGF “The Gun Show” every Saturday with Matt Canovi; was a regular guest on The Nick Reed Show (KSGF) and Steve Largent (KICK), and has appeared on nationwide television on “The 700 Club”; “The O’Reilly Factor”; “Inside Edition”, “Unsolved Mysteries”, ‘American Family Radio” and “Truths that Transform,” (D. James Kennedy); and “Focus on the Family.” His cases were featured in “Court T.V.”, “U.S. News”, “New York Times”, the “Today Show”, “Good Morning America”, and newspapers around the world.
Dee was a member of Second Baptist Church and attended James River Church and Hope Community Church. Most importantly, Dee Wampler was a man that loved the Lord, and demonstrated it in his lifetime. Dee was fiercely loyal to his country and dedicated to His Lord and Savior.
Dee was preceded in death by his parents, Attorney Homer D. Wampler, Jr. and Lu Alice Moore Wampler, his wife Anne Wampler, a granddaughter Elizabeth Wampler (age 10). Dee is survived by a daughter, Allison Wampler Steiner of Springfield, Missouri, and son, John C. Wampler and his wife Jenni Wampler of Columbia, Missouri, and four grandchildren, Olivia, Luke, Hannah, and Daniel.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 15, 2021 in Second Baptist Church, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday in the church.
